Animal Programs Internships in the National Aviary - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States



The National Aviary’s Animal Programs Department is accepting applications for 2011 fall interns.

Interns work with our trainers to learn about husbandry, training, and education as the Animal Programs Department encompasses all of those areas. Some of the responsibilities of interns include cleaning, food preparation, animal observations, daily presentations, assisting with enrichment, public lorikeet feedings, observing or assisting in training sessions, and other duties as assigned. Interns may have the opportunity to participate in various workshops that cover basic training concepts and other relevant material to the animal behavior and care field

All internships are unpaid and interns are expected to work for a total of 480 hours. These hours may be met by working a minimum of 24 hours a week for 20 weeks. This can be flexible to work around school or job schedules. Housing is not provided.

Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age; lift 50 pounds; work both as a team and independently; self-starter with a positive attitude; ability to interact with the public; speak fluent English; considering a career in the animal care field.
